A recent study by ComScore revealed that Argentina now has 12.9 million Internet users, in a population of 40 million. The figure does not include users under age 15 nor those accessing the Internet exclusively from their mobile phones or Internet cafes.
The research found that:
- Argentines spend 30% of their time online.
- Its growth is twice the rest of the world’s: 12% vs 6%.
- They spend 27.4 hours a month on the Web—4 hours more than the worldwide median.
- Users age is “mature” (like the country’s general population).
- Young people (15-24) are more frequent users than those of Latin America and the rest of the world: 33.1 hours.
- Men under 35 spend more time online than their female counterparts.Among those over 35, the trend is reversed.
- Argentina is Facebook’s fifth largest market, and Twitter’s 7th.
- Argentina is the second country in number of hours on Facebook (after Israel).
- 9 out of 10 Internet users access social networks. Instant messaging is also much more popular than in other countries: 71% use it (vs. 36% in the rest of the world.)
- The average number of searches per user is 175, ahead of Brazil and Chile.
- ·89% of these searches are on Google.
